The Volatile Indoors: Visualizing Uneven Toxic VOC Movements

Submitted by Sophia Jaworski on

A quotidian anthropocene of chemical toxicants floats in Toronto, Ontario’s indoor atmospheres. Total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) are a measure of indoor air quality that accounts for an entire chemical class—the cumulative level of molecules which volatize, or turn into gas, at room temperature. Highly reactive, they constantly attach to particulate matter, combining to create secondary reactions and heretofore unknown clouds of substances.

Living among profitable toxic production

Submitted by tulifu on

This project is about the dynamics between toxicity and small scale family agriculture in a rural area on the outskirts of Cuenca, Ecuador.  The economy of this area is based on the production of a wide range of fruits: apples, pears, peaches, plumbs, avocados, apricots, tomatoes, babacos, strawberries, blackberries and others.
