Sick Better Narrative

Description

Artist Chen Yiyun designed the Sick Better project to reflect on the incapacitation narrative of disease and aging. Her artwork introduces the "utopia space" inhabited by the frail and sick elderly who can transform their illness into a powering system. The artist summarized the central idea of her project as follows: "Each illness can, for example, become beneficial to the patient through manipulation and transformation, allowing the state of being unhealthy to create certain objects or effects". This image shows a wheelchaired elder manages to participate in his grandchildren's game through "coughing". Chen Yiyun's other works also indicate the idea of how diseases can transform into materialized artifacts or become a key factor in facilitating mobilization in the "utopia space".
