SoiferI VtP Annotation: Fire Landfill!

The visualization/caption engage with the notion that when dealing with toxicity in a given place, responsibility often falls to the women and children who also tend to be affected the most. As "citizen scientists," they are encouraged to conduct the research deemed necessary to address the toxicity. The author poses questions regarding professionalization, neglectful practices of land management, and responsibilization of citizens in the midst of slow violence. The image depicts a child's engagement with the issue, contending with that which professionals neglect to address--the visualization appears to call for acknowledgement of the efforts of intergenerational activism as well as critique the overburdening of certain groups of people to face and address toxicity.
