RabachK VtP Collaboration Biography

I’m afraid I have very little experience with visualization and creative forms of expression, though I’ve long been interested in the anthropology of tourism and critical heritage studies which both include literature on museum curatorial practices. I have experience thinking about the different ways heritage is produced in specific places or nation-states (ex. Myanmar). I also have experience doing ethnographic fieldwork with different weaving centers throughout Morocco and the Myanmar. Though not necessarily connected to my academic life, I’ve competed and performed in Irish Step dancing for over 20 years. Irish step dancing is really a practice of cultural memory and cultural embodiment. I wouldn’t have used those terms when I was younger, but I now recognize the power and history in the steps I’ve inherited from generations past. I understand, too, that in many ways, the power of Irish dancing comes not solely from these steps being passed down, but the continued performance of these dances. I’m not entirely sure how/what this may add to the VtP project, but I know I would like to work more with themes of heritage and memory.
