AlbaharShahab VtP Annotation: The Dialectic of "Peace"

I think this photo essay does a great job of raising important questions concerning the dialectics of "seemingly virtuous principles" such as peace. It hints at the irreducibility of the multiple meanings of what constitutes peace and how peace is understood at the local, national, and international scales while highlighting the tensions and contradictions in their intersecting definitions. More importantly, it implies the impossibility for a universal understanding of peace and further argues against a binary dichotomy between the practices of the FARC guerilla groups for territorial acquisition and their use of landmines to construct "geographies of risk" and the self-inflicted ecological destruction endorsed by the Columbian government under the rubric of peace accords and demining efforts in rural landscapes.
